a perfectly poppy nursery

One of my favorite things is painting BIG, so when the opportunity comes to paint on a wall, I hop on it like white on rice.

(Side note: Perhaps you're scratching your head, sitting there wondering why this isn't a post updating you on all the amazing things I had declared I would accomplish over Spring Break. Or maybe you didn't even read my last post so you have no idea what I'm talking about. In either case, I will share with you a couple colorful canvases in this coming week....)

Now, back to the wall painting!
My very first wall-painting experience came when I was probably about 11 or 12 and my mom and I used some really cool foam stamps and acrylic craft paint to create a whimsical border around my Pepto-Bismol Pink bedroom. When I turned about 14, I repainted my aunt's beauty shop--a bright pink (probably similar to the Pepto, now that I really think about it) and black, with a really cool, sophisticated woman's silhouette on the back wall between the hair dryers.

If you're a friend or family, and you followed my "other" blog eons ago, you probably remember seeing Miss B's room:
I had SO much fun working on B's room. A definite labor of love and learning the hard way that painting in hot, humid July makes paint's drying process go on FOR....EVER.

When I discovered the amazing, poppy-covered Skopelos fabric by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics (AMAZING, check them out) , I knew it was the fabric I wanted to utilize while designing little G's nursery.

Here's what I ended up doing to revamp our tiny, unused office into a beautiful, feminine nursery for our littlest lady:

Stripes on the wall mimic the stripes in the Skopelos fabric.  I abstracted the poppies and freehanded three clusters of flowers and pods on the wall arbitrarily.
We chose a crib and changing table combo for this room to save on space. I absolutely love it, so any doubts I had about it were quickly alleviated.

A fairly disgusting $15 glider and foot stool were painted (by me) and reupholstered in a navy canvas fabric (by Grandma)!

This really awkward, unattractive armoire I made in high school was given a coat of white paint and a fun ruffled curtain in the various Skopelos fabrics to create a closet for this square room. Bins on top are from Target.

Valances from the main fabric and panels in another coordinating Skopelos design cover the windows. I painted two $1 mirrors in green and pink to accent the wall under my "clouds" of tissue paper flowers and paper lanterns.

I hung these with fishing line, tacks and absolutely no patience. It took forever!

Just as I did for B, I created this custom name painting which hangs above the crib. These custom name paintings are some of my favorite things to do. Give me some fabrics and names and I could create for days!

...so there you have it. A sweet, poppy-filled space for our little gal.
