color play

As an artist, the most exciting part of creating, for me, is working with color. As I age, I find myself responding to color differently both in decorating, clothing and how I approach it in my artwork.
I've always been attracted to bright, Lisa-Frank-style colors, but it wasn't until I became an art teacher that I realized how colors can affect and change your every day.
Days I wear a bright pink cardigan with a neon green tank top are happy days. I've learned to steer clear of wearing so much black, and I've even begun decorating our farm house with colorful artwork, choosing colorful draperies, and embracing a life full of color.

One of my favorite experiments in color is to roll a rubber brayer through my palette after I've completed a painting.
I then roll the brayer across a blank sheet of paper and create these beautiful backgrounds. I enjoy watching the colors and how they play together, mix together and look blended on the surface.
I'm always debating if I should add something to these paper beauties, but I find their simplicity to be really appealing. They're almost my own version of a Rorschach test--what do YOU see when you look at them?

My personal favorite, this one reminds me of something Wassily Kandinsky-esque because of the primary color palette.
